Image editing for more visible details
The software's editing functions can reveal important details that may remain undetected without software support. This includes, for example, adjusting the color palette. While the classic temperature- or signal-linear color distribution is the most common, a histogram distribution can direct the focus to particularly relevant image areas through stronger contrasts.
Thermal Studio offers appropriate measurement functions to correctly assess the condition of a system. For example, a thermogram can be supplemented with measuring points, measuring areas, hotspots, limit values, entire tables of measured values or characteristic curve profiles. Local parameters that deviate from the higher-level image settings can be used for different materials. For example, a separate emissivity, a reflected temperature or the distance can be determined for defined image areas.
Thermal Studio offers a fusion mode that allows the thermal image to be overlaid with the real image. This makes it easier to localize thermal anomalies in complex plant structures. Building inspections, on the other hand, often require several images because the camera's field of view only covers a limited area. In panoramic image mode, these images can be stitched together for a better overview. Live mode enables live streaming via a connected camera. The camera is automatically recognized by the software; it is controlled via the PC (focusing, etc.). The transmitted image can be edited in live mode in the same way as an image or video file.
Documentation of partial discharges or compressed air leaks
A plug-in is available for the FLIR Si2 acoustic camera that allows acoustic images to be integrated into Thermal Studio reporting. Thermal images and acoustic recordings can be combined without the need for separate software. The special report template for partial discharges offers a severity scale (traffic light system), a description of the fault and a suggested solution for rectifying the fault. The type of partial discharge is also indicated (positive/negative corona, flowing discharge, surface or internal discharge).
Inspection planning with the Route Creator
The FLIR Route Creator is an optional plug-in for the full version of Thermal Studio Pro that can be used to optimize inspection workflows and reduce reporting time. This is done by listing all components to be inspected, which can be printed out as a checklist or loaded directly onto the FLIR thermal imaging camera running the "Inspection Route" mode (pre-installed on models E52 and above). When importing images from the FLIR Route Creator, these are automatically compared with the inspection list.
Route planning helps to record temperature data and images in a logical sequence and automate data management. It also ensures that the data capture is complete and that no inspection components are overlooked. The recorded images and notes can be uploaded directly to a report template after the inspection. The inspection process is recorded and the camera settings can be adopted for subsequent jobs based on previous reference images. This means that users can also check an unknown system and make their inspection repeatable.
Cloud-based flexibility with FLIR Ignite
FLIR Ignite is a cloud-based software variant for online processing of thermal images. Images are automatically uploaded from the camera to an Ignite account and can be edited directly in the field and synchronized with Thermal Studio for further analysis in the office. Access is possible at any time using a PC or mobile device. FLIR Ignite also has built-in reporting tools.

FLIR offers three pricing models for the use of Thermal Studio. The simplest variant is Thermal Studio Starter - a free, unlimited basic offer. Radiometric images can already be processed in a target-oriented way and you get access to common measurement functions such as the display of measurement points or the insertion of ellipses. Report generation with predefined templates is also included. However, it is not possible to customize the documents. The reports can be saved as PDF files to be forwarded to a customer. In general, the starter version is sufficient for those who want to post-process thermograms for internal use and require simple report generation.
Thermal Studio Standard and the full version Thermal Studio Pro can be used as a paid annual subscription or with a permanent license. There are more editing options for thermal images and especially for videos. The focus here is on convenient report creation with many templates and user-defined options. You get extended measurement functions, for example for delta measurements, thermal bridge alarm, dew point temperatures or isotherms. The Pro version also offers a polygon measurement function, unlimited batch processing and a mode for live streams. It is also compatible with the FLIR Route Creator, which can be used to create entire inspection routes.
