The compact design with a housing diameter of only 2.5 mm at the probe tip is ideal for measurements on SMT components, as it allows a far better view of the component to be tested than conventional 5 mm probe housing designs. A trademark for PMK probes is the exchangeable probe tip, which is also available for the PML series.
The actual probe tip is only 0.5 mm thick, gold-plated and spring-loaded. A firm but more stable tip is also available to the user.
The tips can easily be exchanged depending on the purpose. The shortest possible ground connection is necessary, especially for RF measurements on the IC. Conventional adaptations bring additional inductivity and resonances into the measuring circuit through long supply lines and thus falsify the measuring signal. The innovative IC contacting system of the PML, consisting of 5 different IC caps for “pitch” distances from 0.5 to 1.27 mm, the innovative “ground blade” and the “copper pad” for sticking on, offer on the IC, the ideal solution for short-circuit-proof, reproducible and unadulterated measurements. Together with over 30 accessories, the new PML probe family leaves little to be desired in terms of connection options to the measuring point.
