The PXIe‑8430/16 module is a high-performance interface for high-speed communication with RS‑232 devices. The module offers data transfer over the high-speed DMA interface, multithreading, and multiprocessor support. NI serial interfaces appear as standard COM ports, ensuring compatibility with programs that use serial communication.

The PXIe Serial Bus Instrument Control Modules enable communication with external serial hardware from a PXIe chassis over asynchronous serial interfaces. The interfaces support conventional serial protocols such as RS232, RS422 and RS485. The modules offer hyperthreading and multiprocessor compatibility options as well as 4- and 2-wire transceiver modes for half and full duplex communication. The serial interfaces of the modules are standard COM ports to ensure compatibility with programs that use serial communication.
