The SPS electronic surge voltage tester ST 6600B is a small but extremely powerful tabletop device that was specially manufactured for quality assurance in the production of coiled goods. But the Surgetester ST 6600B is also suitable for use in the laboratory, development and repair. The impulse voltage test is the only way to detect shorted turns and insulation faults within a winding, even before the fault affects the electrical specifications of the test object. There is no other test method that detects whether the test object has previous damage and whether this is causing a failure. When a charged capacitor is quickly connected to the winding to be tested, the energy stored in the capacitor is discharged into the inductance. This results in a sinusoidal, damped oscillation. The frequency and the amplitude are typical for the test object.
