Description

17020 | Regenerative battery pack test system

Chromas 17020 is a high-precision system specially designed for secondary battery modules and pack inspections. Accurate sources and measurements ensure the test quality that is suitable for performing repetitive and reliable tests that are crucial for battery modules / packs during incoming or outgoing tests as well as tests of capacity, performance, production and qualification.

The Chromas 17020 system architecture offers regenerative discharging, which is used to recycle the electrical energy that the battery module either feeds back into the system channels to perform a charging function or in an extremely energy-efficient manner into the mains power supply. This feature saves electricity, reduces the thermal footprint of the plants and provides a green solution by reducing the environmental impact on our planet.

Different battery modules can be tested at the same time. The test system is equipped with several independent channels, which enable a simultaneous test procedure for different battery modules with different characteristics. The individual channels can easily be connected in parallel in order to meet higher current requirements. This feature offers the greatest flexibility with a large number of channels and the possibility of test runs with high current.

An advanced hardware design can create seamless transitions between maximum charge and maximum discharge (or maximum discharge and maximum charge) with a rapid 50 ms conversion. This feature enables loading / unloading modes that simulate real-world scenarios.

Chroma's 17020 system has flexible programming functions and can be operated with Chroma's powerful Battery Pro software. Battery Pro uses the system to create periodic run-through tests from a basic charge or discharge to complex drive cycle tests per channel or channel group. A climate chamber control can be integrated into a profile and triggered according to time or test results, which results in a dynamic profile. The functions of Battery Pro allow a quick and intuitive test development to eliminate lengthy script elaborations or programming by a software developer.

There are several safety functions such as battery polarity check, over voltage protection, over current protection and over temperature protection to ensure protected charge / discharge tests. However, should the power or computer communication fail, the data is safely stored in a non-volatile memory in the system, protected against potential data loss, so that operation can continue after restart.
