Compared to the higher-end model 5491B, the 2831E offers a lower display resolution (20.000 counts vs. 50,000 counts) and a slightly reduced basic accuracy at DC voltage (±0.03% vs. ±0.02%). While both models have a USB interface, only the 5491B is additionally equipped with an RS232 interface. The frequency ranges for AC measurements are also more extensive on the 5491B.
